Marathons

A marathon is a long-distance running race with an official distance of 42.195 kilometers (26.219 miles). It is typically run as a road race, although it can also take place on trails. The event is named after the ancient Greek soldier Pheidippides, who is said to have run from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens to deliver news of victory against the Persians. Marathons are popular events worldwide, attracting both amateur and professional athletes. They often are organized as part of larger events or festivals and include various categories for participants, such as different age groups or capabilities.
