Soccer

Soccer, also known as football in most countries outside North America, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. Players, except for the goalkeepers, are not allowed to use their hands or arms to control the ball, and they primarily use their feet, head, and torso to pass, dribble, and shoot the ball.

Soccer is governed by a set of rules called the Laws of the Game, which are established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). The sport is highly popular worldwide, with billions of fans and players, making it one of the most widely played and watched sports globally. Major tournaments, such as the FIFA World Cup, showcase national teams from around the world and are followed by millions of spectators. Soccer’s simplicity and minimal equipment requirements make it accessible to a wide range of populations, contributing to its global appeal.
